MEET JANIS
NEW LEADERSHIP
INTEGRITY * ACCOUNTABILITY * FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
We live in Punta Gorda because of its quaint small-town feel, the beautiful water that surrounds it and wonderful access to fishing, boating and parks. As a council member I will be committed to preserving our town's unique character while enhancing Punta Gorda with responsible development. I will actively listen to the residents and I will strive to fulfill their vision for our city.
Most of us who live here appreciate the ambience of this town with its historic buildings and homes. If someone appreciates tall buildings and high density there are many other cities to choose from. Our goal is to maintain and enhance the natural beauty and charm that we have here.
Having previously lived in a small, historic, waterfront town in Gig Harbor, Washington, we worked hard there to preserve that special quality. Once you lose it you can't get it back. My husband and I bought a 100-year-old waterfront home and rather than tear it down as many would, we made it into a beautiful, craftsman style home which we turned into a boutique hotel, the Waterfront Inn. We created a peaceful retreat for guests to enjoy. We built the business and added to the community as we were one of the first hotels.
I was on the lodging tax advisory committee, and the tourism board so I understand the value of small business and the need to use valuable tax dollars wisely. My husband, Steve and I also created a youth mentoring program, on large sailboats. We started a charter company with an 80 ft tall ship schooner where we trained sailors and served Wounded Warriors, Make a Wish foundation and businesses.
I look forward to the opportunity of serving you, safeguarding and enhancing our community's charm, quality of life, and safety with responsible and accountable leadership.
