LIST OF ISSUES
Representative Government
The City Council has not been listening and has repeatedly ignored the will of the people on such important issues as city development by choosing higher density and taller buildings while the majority of engaged residents want to maintain the quaint charm of our harborfront town. Most residents want appropriate development with measured growth to enhance our city without destroying its ambiance and natural beauty. The current council has removed pickleball courts and attempted to remove the Boat Club dinghy docks with no community input. The Cooper Street Recreation Center community concerns were ignored by City Council who chose the Venice YMCA to run the Center.

Fiscal Responsibility
Punta Gorda's failing infrastructure needs to be addressed. Example include flooding issues, drainage, fresh water quality and supply, and neglected historic buildings. Cost overruns on projects are the norm. Dollars from worthy safety and infrastructure projects are being transferred to the $16,000,000 budget for the City Hall expansion which is not needed and does nothing for residents safety or quality of life.
The City has had a 22% increase in revenue over the last few years due to rising assessments. In spite of this the millage tax rate has remained the highest ever. It's time to give taxpayers a break.
A Bright Future
Many people moved here because of our small-town charm. We can have sustainable development that encourages economic business opportunity. We can enhance the beauty of our waterfront community by controlling the height of buildings and the density of development so that it does not stress our neglected infrastructure, We need to protect our fragile estuary and beautiful harbor so that we all can enjoy it for years to come.
